Question: One thing I didn't understand was radio buttons for either "Modify Event" or "Copy Event" when editing daily events. What do they do?
Answer: When you edit an existing event, one of two things can happen. If you select "Modify Event" (the default) then the changes you make will replace the previous attributes of the event you are editing. If you select "Copy Event" then a new event will be created when you click on "Submit", and the original event that you "edited" will remain unchanged.
Question: I added an entry, and then edited it, and then cut it with the very intuitive scissors icon. But I don't see any way to "Paste" anything, so I think that the "cut" is really a "delete" without saving anything on the clipboard. If there were an easy way to paste stuff from something like a clipboard, then one could create the standard Sunday schedules a month (or a quarter) at a time.
Answer: The scissors icon is really a delete, not a cut and place on clipboard. There is no clipboard in iCal. To make a bunch of nearly identical events follow these steps: 1. Create the first one. 2. Edit it, make time/date and other changes as appropriate for the next one, select "Copy Event", and press Submit. 3. Repeat step 2 for each event you need to create.

Question: Putting a URL in a popup puts the link in the same browser window. Do you know of a way to force the URL popup to open in a new window with a default left-click?
Answer: To force a URL to open in a new window, put the entire <a> coding structure in the "Popup Text of URL link" window, and include the target="_blank" keyword.
Here is an example: <a href="http://www.angelinn.net" target="_blank">Angel Inn Web Page</a>
When the user clicks on the calendar item, it will open a popup window which will include the link you've specified. When the user clicks on that link, a new browser window will be opened and directed to your URL. The calendar and popup windows will still be active on the user's browser.

Question: I'd like to add events just on my calendar and not have them show up in the Master Calendar or other calendars that might display my events. How do I do that?
Answer: When you create or edit an event that you don't want to be seen in other calendars, select "Don't Display Event" under "When included in other calendars:" on the edit event screen.
Answer: A "Daily" event is one that happens once. (An event that happens every day is not "Daily" but is one type of "Periodic" event, see below.) This is the normal and basic type of event. When you click on a date number, you will be able to see, add and edit the "Daily" events that fall on that date.
A "Duration" event is one that spans several days. "Duration" events can be added and edited by clicking on "Add Events: Duration" in the lower left corner.
A "Periodic" event one that repeats at the same time each week, month or year. Birthdays, weekly rehearsals, and meetings on the 3rd Tuesday or each month are good examples of periodic events.
"Periodic" events can be converted to multiple "Daily" events, but this is a one way, one time process. Make sure your events are correct before you do this, as any mistake will have to be corrected on EVERY "Daily" event separately.
Question: I have a periodic event that occurs every Thursday throughout the year. I need to indicate a change on the one that falls on Thanksgiving. How do I do that?
Answer: There is no way to make a change to one occurrence of a periodic calendar event. However, you can get the result you are looking for by making the Thanksgiving event a daily event. There are two ways to go about this:
1) Convert the periodic event to multiple daily events. This is easy to do, but it can only be done once, and it cannot be undone! If you need to make a change to all the events after you have converted the periodic event to daily events, then you will have to do it separately for each daily event.
2) A less drastic approach is to create 2 periodic events and 1 daily event. Make one periodic event all the Thursdays from Jan 1 to Nov 21, create a daily event for Thanksgiving, and make a periodic event for Dec 1 onward. They will look the same on the calendar, but you will be able to modify the Thanksgiving event separately from the rest.
Question: I'm creating periodic events for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sundays of each month. I only see choices for 1st through 4th and "last". How do I get the 5th Sunday only on the months that have a 5th Sunday?
Answer: You have just discovered one of the shortfalls of iCal 3.5. I'm sorry, but there is no elegant way to do that. You could create Daily Events for each of the 5th Sundays. (See Cut and Paste.) Or you could create a periodic event for the last Sunday, convert it to daily events, and then delete those that fell on 4th Sundays.
Answer: Edit the Periodic event. In the edit screen select the box called "Generate Daily Events!" and click on Submit.
When you've done this, the periodic event will be deleted and be replaced by Daily events. This cannot be undone. If you do this and then discover that you need to make a change to the event, you will have to make the change individually on each daily event. If your Periodic event was a weekly event running a full year, then it will convert to 52 Daily events. Any changes you have to make after that will require 52 edits. Even removing the events will require 52 deletes.
Please consider an easier way to change something on just one occurrence of a periodic event.
